Magnificat Institute Jerusalem 16th “Nikolaus de la Flüe” Piano Competition January 30 - February 1, 2015

The Magnificat “Nikolaus de la Flüe” Piano Competition, 16th Annual Edition January 30 - February 1, 2015. The Winners’ Concert of the Magnificat “Nikolaus de la Flüe” Piano Competition will take place on Sunday, February 1 2015, at 6 pm, in the Auditorium Immaculata (St. Saviour’s Monastery, New Gate, Jerusalem).

Open to all pianists living and studying in the Holy Land, the Piano Competition celebrates this year its 16th annual edition making it the oldest musical competition taking place every year in the region.

The Magnificat Institute, the music school of the Custody of the Holy Land, organizes the piano competition with the intention to select and promote young musicians who, in the near future, will be able to enter a professional career as performers and teachers – this especially in the context of Palestinian society where the demand for musical education is on the rise but qualified teachers are lacking.

A jury will select the winners performing in the final concert of Sunday, February 1. Members of the jury are pianists teaching in prestigious musical institutions locally and abroad.

The competition is named after Nikolaus de la Flüe, the patron saint of the Swiss Confederation. The main sponsor of the event is, in fact, the association “Friends of the Magnificat in Switzerland”. Other generous supporters are: the Office of the Representative of the Republic of Poland to the Palestinian Authority, the scouts of the Compagnia di San Giorgio, the Premio Vallesina, and the Zeppilli Family.
In addition, the European Union is sponsoring this event through the Magnificat Orchestra, which will participate in the Winners’ Concert.

The public is invited to attend the auditions taking place on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31 always in the Auditorium Immaculata.

The entrance is free for both the Concert and the auditions.
