The message published today by the Assembly of the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land (AOCTS) following the Majdal Shams tragedy is reported in Arabic and English:
12 طفلاً قتلوا بشكل مأساوي في هجوم على ملعب في مجدل شمس يوم السبت. هذه الأرواح البريئة، المليئة بالآمال والأحلام، أُزهقت في عمل عنف لا يوصف، يرفضه كل من يحترم قدسية الحياة.
نقدم تعازينا الحارة لعائلات وأقارب الضحايا ولجميع أفراد الطائفة الدرزية في الأرض المقدسة. فقدان هؤلاء الأطفال هو مأساة لا توصف، تترك أثراً عميقاً في نفوسنا جميعاً. فالكلمات لا تعبر عن الحزن والغضب الذي نشعر به أمام هذا العنف.
في هذا الوقت من الحداد، يجب علينا تكريم ذكراهم بتجديد التزامنا بالسلام ورفض جميع أشكال العنف. يجب أن تنتهي دائرة العنف القائمة. نحث جميع الأطراف على السعي للفهم والاحترام المتبادل، لأن مستقبل أطفالنا ومجتمعاتنا يعتمد على ذلك. يجب أن تتوقف كل أعمال العنف والكراهية والاحتقار!

"12 children were tragically killed in a playground attack in Majdal Shams on Saturday. These innocent lives, full of hopes and dreams, were taken in an unspeakable act of violence, deeply grieving all who hold life sacred.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and to the entire Druze community in the Holy Land. The loss of these children is an unspeakable tragedy, leaving a profound impact on us all. Words cannot fully express the grief and indignation we feel in the face of such an abhorrent act of violence.
In this time of mourning, we must honor their memories by renewing our commitment to peace and rejecting all forms of violence. The cycle of violence must end. We urge all parties to seek understanding and mutual respect, for the future of our children and communities depends on it. Enough with this violence, hatred, and contempt!
We earnestly entreat all parties to abandon the path of conflict and arms, and to seek understanding and mutual respect. The future of children and the welfare of our communities hinge upon our ability to transcend hatred and to embrace the principles of compassion and coexistence. Nothing will be resolved by the evil of arms and war! Let us not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good! [Letter of St. Paul to Romans 12:21].
