“Tierra Santa” arrives in Mexico

Printing and distribution of the Spanish edition of the Holy Land Review is starting in Mexico.

Distribution of the Spanish edition of the Holy Land Review is starting in Mexico. The May-June issue will be the first to be printed and distributed in the land of the Aztecs. Twelve thousand copies will be printed of this first issue.

A common language, passion for the world

This time comes after months of reflection and work, focusing on the main mission of the Holy Land magazines: to make the land of Jesus known to as many people as possible – both pilgrims who have already visited it and continue to remember their experience in that land, and all those who, unable to make a pilgrimage, want to feel closer to it.

The fact of sharing a common language with Latin America has convinced “Tierra Santa” to take this step and propose extending publication beyond the Spanish borders.

The work of the Commissariats

After several meetings between the Commissars of the Holy Land of Spain and Latin America, the “green light” has arrived for the initiative. “As the Conference of the Commissars of the Holy Land of Mexico, Central America and Panama, we have taken concrete steps in the past few months,” commented fra José Alcaraz, President of the Conference and Commissar of the Mexican province of San Junípero Serra. “We have strengthened the relations between us and our Commissariats, helped in this process by the delegate of the Custody of the Holy Land for Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking commissars, fra Silvio de la Fuente”.

Fra José continues: “We have concentrated on the main task of the Commissars of the Holy Land: to arouse interest and love for the Holy Land and for the mission of the friars of the Custody in our provincial fraternities and in the churches in our areas.  Tangibly, as Commissars, we are concerned with promoting every type of activity that can serve and support the mission of the Church - in particular of the Franciscans – in the Holy Land. I think that the Review is an excellent instrument for this.”

At the meeting of the Commissars of the Conference of Commissars of the Holy Land of Mexico, Central America and Panama held in Guatemala in April 2023, fra Luis Quintana, as President of the Conference of the Commissars of the Holy Land of Span and Portugal, presented “Tierra Santa,” leading to the idea of a special edition to be distributed in Mexico, with the intention of extending it to the other counties in Central America.

Dedicated pages

The magazine is the same one for Spain and for Central America – with the same management, coordination and layout in Spain -, but printed and distributed in Mexico as well. The only difference is that some pages with information of interest for Mexican pilgrims (subscription, pilgrimages etc.)  will be inserted in the magazine for Mexico. The first issue of the magazine will be free for everyone who has already gone on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
