Haifa – “Stella Maris”
Like on Mount Tabor 3 tents keep the mystery of the Transfiguration, as on Mount Carmel 3 cloaks lay on the mystery:
- Elijah’s mantle on fire that makes man long for heaven
- Virgin Mary’s scapular, which protects man from the dangers of the earth,
- The Carmelite’s "hood", which teaches man silence and prayer.
Also this year, in memory of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, in the Sanctuary "Stella Maris" in Haifa, a hospitality exchange was renewed: F. Milton Moulthon and the community of Carmelites greeted the Franciscan community of Nazareth and the Latin community parish priest, who presided over the celebration and which was solemnly concelebrated by Bishop Joseph Marcuzzo, Patriarchal Vicar for Israel.
The Church was full of religious and Our Lady of Mount Carmel faithful who came from all the continents, accompanied by their Carmelite spiritual assistants, and numerous were the parishioners of Haifa, Nazareth and Acre, all with their parish priests
The liturgical service was done by Francis’s sons who came from Puglia-Italy, while the chants were sung in Arabic and Latin from the parish choir of Haifa, they gave the celebration a solemn touch.
With the final blessing, Mgr. Marcuzzo recalled f. Ricardo Bustos, the Guardian of Nazareth, and his twenty-five years of priesthood. Also the appointment which is coming soon of the feast of St. Elijah and the exchange of hospitality which will see the Carmelites as Franciscan guests, on the 15th of August for the Solemnity of the Assumption in Nazareth.
No one came back home without having had the experience of a joyous and generous welcome that the Carmelite brothers gave and to whom I extend our sincere thanks.
