On Tuesday, June 7, the new “Guardian of Mount Zion and of the Holy Sepulcher” made his solemn entry into the Basilica of the Resurrection. He left Holy Savior’s Monastery, accompanied by about fifty Franciscans and H.E. Cardinal Giuseppe Betori of Florence, who was visiting, along with other Italian bishops. Before the closed doors of the basilica, he was greeted by superiors of the Greek Orthodox, Franciscan and Armenian apostolic communities.
After tilting the Stone of Unction, during the singing of the Te Deum, he walked toward the empty tomb to pray before receiving taking his vows in the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament.
He then led the daily procession. A Franciscan among Franciscans, Br. Francesco Patton prayed and sang with his brothers in a smaller-than-usual space due to the restoration work being carried out on the shrine. This is the first in a long series of liturgies!
