Magnificat: Inauguration and Opening Tuesday, September 4, 2012

2012/08/29

The Concert on Tuesday, September 4th at 17.00 (free admission) concludes the tour of the Jerusalem International Youth String Orchestra, composed of students of different schools of music in the Marche Region, Sarajevo and the Magnificat Institute in Jerusalem. It is also the inauguration of the new premises of the Magnificat Institute – the school of music of the Custody of the Holy Land – made possible by the support of the Marche Region, the Municipality of Maiolati Spontini and the Association Premio Vallesina (Ancona).

The first concert of the tour takes place in the Province of Ancona during the last days of August, concluding in the prestigious “Festival of the Sea” in Ancona and the participation of the orchestra during the liturgy in the Cathedral of Saint Chirico on September 2nd.

This initiative, in its second year, which brings together students of music from different backgrounds and cultures, was entitled “Pentagrammando la Pace insieme”(title difficult to translate into other languages), and is organized by the Premio Vallesina, with the support of other local entities.

The concert in Jerusalem will include the music of Vivaldi, Bach, Ravel, Verdi and other composers. In addition to orchestral pieces, there will also be some piano selections, as a gesture of gratitude to the Premio Vallesina who helped the Magnificat acquire a prestigious Steinway D274 grand piano.

The Association Premio Vallesina has long been committed to supporting the Magnificat, bringing friends and Marche institutions to help their countryman, Fra Armando Pierucci, founder and general director of the Magnificat, in order that the work of eighteen years might continue. This concrete and effective assistance brings results both financial, as well as cultural, through the organization of events, courses and musical exchanges between Jerusalem and the Marches. The Custos of the Holy Land, Fra Pierbattista Pizzaballa, will inaugurate this substantial project right before the concert in the presence of a large delegation of institutions representing the Marche Region, the Municipality of Maiolati Spontini and Premio Vallesina. This is a major restoration and reclamation of classrooms – housed in a basement – which will now be dehumidified and equipped with an air conditioning system. In addition, this space will also host the academic coursesrecently established with the recognition of the Italian Ministry of Education, namely new offices, library, multipurpose room, multimedia room, and rehearsal room for the choir and orchestra.
