New Leadership in the Custody of the Holy Land

Saturday July 10, five days into the Chapter and half way through it, the friars of the chapter elect the Custodial Vicar and the friars who will compose the Discretorium of the Custody.

Fr. Artemio Vitores ofm was reelected Custodial Vicar. He was first elected Custodial Vicar in the Chapter of 2004. This year Fr. Artemio is celebrating his 40th year in the Holy Land.

The Discretory, composed of representatives of the six linguistic groups currently existing in the Custody, witnesses the reconfirmation of some of the friars in it and welcomes others as new:

• fra Noel Muscat ofm

• fra Peter Vasko ofm

• fra Amjad Sabbara ofm

• fra Seweryn Lubecki ofm

• fra Martín Rafael Zavaletta ofm

• fra Stéphane Milovitch ofm

The Discretorium along with the Custos and Custodial Vicar form the government of the Custody, meeting on a monthly basis during the year so as to assess, along with the Custos, whether the decisions of the Chapter are implemented. They deliberate on other matters, according to need and necessity. At the closing of the current chapter, they shall nominate the friars for service in the different houses of the Custody of the Holy Land.

The announcement of the formation of the new Discretorium has been communicated immediately to the fraternities of the Custody by Fr. Francesco Bravi, the president of the Chapter.

In his message, Fr. Francesco Bravi invoked the Holy Spirit and the obedience of St. Francis, thanking the friars for accepting the responsibility given to them and recalling Jesus’ words in the Gospel of St. John he concluded saying to them: “As the Father has sent me, so do I send you”.
