Pope Benedict XVI returns to the diocese in 2010

Today the Apostolic Nunciature of Cyprus announced that Pope Benedict XVI will return to the Island in 2010.

Cyprus is part of the Jerusalem diocese and the Custody of the Holy Land is responsible for the pastoral care of three cities (Larnaca, Limassol, Nicosia) as well as several chapels there. In Nicosia, the Custody also owns a college.

Below is the official Statement of the Apostolic Nunciature:

His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Excellency Josef Souaef, Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus and the Most Reverend Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Custos of the Holy Land, with great pleasure announce that His Holiness the Pope Benedict XVI, accepting the invitation addressed to Him by the President of the Republic and their local Churches, has the intention to visit Cyprus at the end of next spring, probably at beginning of June.

Nicosia, 1st October 2009.
