Há mais de dois anos desde o fim da reestruturação da Edícula do Santo Sepulcro, terminada com Cerimônia ecumênica, no dia 22 de março de 2017, as Comunidades cristãs responsáveis pelo Status Quo, no interior do Santo Sepulcro, firmaram um acordo a fim de iniciar a segunda fase de reestruturação e readaptamento do Lugar Sacro.
A primeira fase de reestruturação da Edícula foi iniciada depois do acordo de 22 de março de 2016. Os dez meses de trabalhos foram realizados por um equipe dirigida pela Professora Antônia Moropoulou, da National Technical University de Atenas, que guiou tanto os estudos preliminares como a restauração efetiva da Edícula.
Os trabalhos foram financiados pelas três comunidade cristãs, presentes no interior do Santo Sepulcro: o Patriarcado Grego-Ortodoxo, a Custódia da Terra Santa e o Patriarcado Armênio.
DECLARATION
We, the Head of the Christian Communities in charge of the Status Quo in the Holy Sepulchre of our Lord, announce with great joy and satisfaction our agreement to initiate a project for the restoration and rehabilitation of the foundations of the Holy Tomb and of the pavement of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
This project comes immediately after the positive outcome of the project for the restoration of the Holy Tomb itself. It marks and confirms the Communities' ongoing commitment to the maintenance and rehabilitation of this Holiest place, which in its silence and bareness, eloquently proclaims the very essence of our Faith.
The project will be carried out in two phases, a first stage of study for the determination of the current situation of the foundations and a second phase of restoration of the foundations and of the pavement of the Church.
Two Italian academic and scientific institution of the highest qualification shall carry out the studies and execute the works under the supervision of the joint committee of the three Communities.
We pray God Almighty to bless this initiative and crown the project with success.
