יותר משנתיים לאחר סיומו של השלב הראשון של השיפוצים בכנסיית הקבר, האדיקול, אשר הגיע לסיומו בטקס אקומני שנערך ב-22 במרץ 2017, הקהילות הנוצריות האחראיות על הסטאטוס קוו בכנסיית הקבר חתמו על הסכם על מנת להתחיל את השלב השני של השיפוצים והשיקום של המקום הקדוש ביותר.
השלב הראשון של השיקום של האדיקול של ישוע המשיח האדון החל לאחר הסכם מתאריך ה-22 במרץ 2016. עשרת חודשי העבודה נוהלו על ידי צוות מיוון בהדרכת פרופ' אנטוניה מורופולן מהאוניברסיטה הטכנית של אתונה, אשר הדריכה גם הן את המחקרים הקודמים ואת השיקום של ה-אדיקול.
העבודה ממומנת על ידי שלוש זרמים נוצריים של כנסיית הקבר: היוונים האורתודוכסים, הפרנציסקאנים והארמנים. בנוסף לתרומה הכספית שלהם, ישנה גם קרן ציבורית הממומנת על ידי ממשלת יוון ומיטיבים פרטיים. הקרן של המונומנטים של העולם הינה שחקן מרכזי בהשגת הקרנות ההכרחיות הללו.
DECLARATION
We, the Head of the Christian Communities in charge of the Status Quo in the Holy Sepulchre of our Lord, announce with great joy and satisfaction our agreement to initiate a project for the restoration and rehabilitation of the foundations of the Holy Tomb and of the pavement of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
This project comes immediately after the positive outcome of the project for the restoration of the Holy Tomb itself. It marks and confirms the Communities' ongoing commitment to the maintenance and rehabilitation of this Holiest place, which in its silence and bareness, eloquently proclaims the very essence of our Faith.
The project will be carried out in two phases, a first stage of study for the determination of the current situation of the foundations and a second phase of restoration of the foundations and of the pavement of the Church.
Two Italian academic and scientific institution of the highest qualification shall carry out the studies and execute the works under the supervision of the joint committee of the three Communities.
We pray God Almighty to bless this initiative and crown the project with success.
